THE DESIGNER

I was raised in Africa, where my childhood was filled with vibrant landscapes, rich culture, and a strong sense of community. From a young age, I was captivated by the beauty around me, but it was fashion that truly stole my heart. Whether I was in the classroom or at home, my mind was always wandering into a world of creativity. While others were focused on their schoolwork, I could often be found doodling dresses and designing outfits for my beloved Barbie dolls. It was clear even then that my heart was set on fashion.

As a child, I was fascinated by the glamour and elegance that seemed to surround me in the stories my grandmothers would share. They often spoke of the vintage clothing they wore in their youth—dresses with intricate details, bold shapes, and a timeless sense of style. These stories left an indelible mark on me, sparking my love for classic, vintage fashion and the allure of the past. I dreamed of one day bringing that same sense of sophistication and beauty to life in my own designs.

My love for fashion deepened as I grew older, and it became clear that my passion was leading me toward a career in design. After completing my schooling in Africa, I set my sights on London, where I enrolled at LCCA (London College of Contemporary Arts) to study Fashion Design. It was here that I refined my craft and solidified my vision for a future in fashion. London, with its rich fashion history and cutting-edge innovation, provided the perfect environment for me to explore my style and further develop my design philosophy.

Throughout my journey, I’ve always followed trends with an eye for timelessness, believing in the balance between staying current and honoring the elegance of the past. I draw inspiration from the glamorous vintage clothing my grandmothers wore, the vibrant energy of my African upbringing, and the ever-evolving world of modern fashion. Now, as a designer, I create pieces that celebrate femininity, elegance, and timeless style—blending classic influences with contemporary sensibilities.

From a young age, I always had a natural inclination for creativity, especially in the world of art. While others around me were focused on subjects like science and math, my heart was drawn to the world of sketches, colors, and design. Throughout my school years, I was never without my sketchbook, always doodling dresses, patterns, and figures on the margins of my notebooks. Science never quite captured my imagination the way art did, and I often found myself daydreaming about the beautiful designs I could create rather than memorizing formulas or equations.

When I moved to London, I initially enrolled in a science program, partly due to external pressures and a desire to keep my options open. But deep down, I knew that this path wasn’t aligned with my true passion. As I delved deeper into my studies, the more I realized that I wasn’t truly fulfilled. I longed for a career that allowed me to express my creativity, something that could merge my love for art with my desire to make something beautiful and meaningful.

It was then that I made the bold decision to shift my focus completely. I embraced my true passion for fashion and enrolled in fashion design, where I could pour my heart and soul into creating. This decision wasn’t just about changing courses; it was about embracing who I truly was and the path that felt most authentic to me. My love for drawing and design found its home in fashion, where I could bring my sketches to life, creating pieces that reflected my artistic vision and personal style.

Today, I look back on those early days with a sense of gratitude. My journey—from sketching dresses in the margins of science notebooks to studying fashion in London—taught me the importance of following my passion, no matter where it takes me. It’s a reminder that true fulfillment comes from pursuing what you love, even if it means stepping off the beaten path.
